The school shooting in Santa Fe that left 10 dead and 10 injured has state officials lining up to offer possible solutions to prevent another such tragedy, so Texas students can be safe in their classes.
Gov. Greg Abbott says he will be leading a quick study of what can be done, through a series of around the state, and plans to propose "swift solutions" that could include ramped-up security and expedited background checks on gun purchasers.
Within hours of the shooting, gun-control activists and Second Amendment supporters -- along with Democratic gubernatorial candidates -- had reopened the emotional debate over what should be done.
A 17-year-old suspect was in custody.
